February 27- DeFuniak Springs

Woke up to no heat. Time for more propane. After coffee and a walk we headed into town and found propane refilling available at the largest Ace Hardware I’ve seen. They even have a grain elevator for feed. Big sale too – 20% off anything in the store.

Ran into the campground owner when I returned and settled up for last night and tonight. He’s got a great little workshop behind the house and is a tinkerer. One of his passions is power. His current project is build a wind turbine from scratch. I saw the jig he used to wrap the copper wire, the plates on which the magnets will go, the pvc pipe he’s cut longitudinally to form blades, the contraption he’s designed and welded to pivot the thing into the air on a 30’ pole for now. He drew me a dimensioned sketch of the design for an easily erectable 60’ tower with guy wires. Pretty interesting guy and he certainly enjoys working on his projects. He’s got parts and plans in the workshop for a solar air heating system.

Did a load of laundry, communicated with friends, paid bills online and cooked dinner. Making plans for moving onto Pensacola tomorrow.
